Find the lair of the kobold bandits and kill ‘em all. And so, as per the Intro to the Encounter above. Kobolds spill out onto the track- blocking the way forward and back. They’re kobold warriors, or else most of them are. Standing atop a stone bluff beside the road, looking down upon you, is a strange, masked kobold with a staff. This little guy is also wearing robes. The mask seems to be made from the skull of some long dead reptile. The staff wielding kobold sings. Of course he does. Kobolds- natch! The song is remarkably sweet, as is his voice- very like the famous gnome bard Clallyd Djones. "I am Eggnog." The six other kobold warriors present chorus, they're remarkably tuneful too- "He is Eggnog." The kobolds that are not Eggnog sway slowly side to side, throughout the song. Eggnog sings again- "I used to be top dog." Chorus- "He used to be top dog." Eggnog sings again- "I was a big cog, a big nob..." The chorus, with relish- "A very big nob!" Eggnog again- "But then the dragon naughty word off..." Chorus- "naughty word right off!" Eggnog again- "... with all of our stuff!" Chorus, shouting- very loud. "Bloody Heck!" The song stops for a second, or two, the silence stretches until... Eggnog rants- "So now it's CHOPPER-CHOP!" Eggnog is furious dancing from foot to foot. The other kobolds are doing the same and chorusing with the CHOPPER-CHOP bits. Eggnog, still furious, with the chorus echoing- "It's CHOPPER-CHOP!" "I said it’s CHOPPER-CHOP!" "One more time, CHOPPER-CHOP!" "CHOPPER-CHOP!" "CHOP OFF THEIR HEADS!" And with that the kobolds, at least those on the road, star jump and then rush to attack. Again, a typical start to an encounter with kobolds- they’re known for it. Yen, however, seems not to be a fan of the musical numbers- the halfling monk flip-flops forward, even before the song has concluded, and caves in the head of the nearest kobold warrior, and then for good measure he sticks the rough end of his staff into the mouth of the other kobold warrior present here. This poor fellow spends the rest of his life (not long now) choking-on and spitting-out his shattered teeth. Sadie’s Acid Splash, alas, is way off target, a pair of kobold warriors skitter out of the acid rain at the very last moment. The dragon sorcerer’s follow up Fire Bolt is so high wide and handsome it fails to hit the massive stone bluff behind the kobold she was aiming at. Sadie starts screaming like a banshee. It’s what she does. Egg-Nog, up on the bluff sings the Song of Chopper. Basically, it’s the same song as at the start, or else the last Chopper-Chop bit, the effect? All the kobolds get some temporary hit points- three each, to be exact. Then, rather unexpectedly, Egg-Nog opens his mouth and let’s out a titanic burp- ejecting a green bubble, the size of a large beach ball, in the process. The bubble drifts down towards the road and then- inevitably- POPS! It’s made of liquid acid- Maggie and Thugg sizzle a little (but not much). Maggie and Thugg sizzle, a little. Yen has just kicked the head off a kobold. Alas Thugg isn’t all that, the kobold warrior on the bluff easily keeps the raging half-orc at bay. Then… all sneaky like, a kobold sneak darts from its hiding spot behind the one of the bluffs to the east and… kills Sadie. Well, maybe not kill, but certainly its attack is enough to reduce the shrieking sorcerer to zero hit points, which- of course- causes a note to appear on screen. So, You Think You Are Dying Part 1 You're probably not. Do you have any healing HD left to spend today? If so spend one now. The priestess of the Sea Bitch is, alas, left cursing- she attacks, and she hits, but- not often and not hard enough. Maggie gets swingy, but the kobolds resists. There are no mooks here, this is a proper fight. The first turn of combat is done- one kobold warrior (6d6 + 6 HP each, so- fairly tough) lies dead. Sadie has a headache… we go on. Yen keeps beating on the kobold warrior he’s fighting, leaving it critically wounded. Sadie, seeing Yen’s plight, decides to help the halfling monk out- or else she slams a Fire Bolt into the rear of the kobold Yen has mortally wounded, and steals his kill. Nice work Sadie. A second (Crit) Fire Bolt leaves the kobold warrior that Maggie O’ is fighting teetering on the edge of life/death (down to 1 HP). But that’s all the sorceress has got. Thugg, still facing off against the kobold warrior on the bluff, rolls a ‘2’ and ‘3’ for his attacks. We move on. Swiftly. He’s still singing his song. His battle anthem. It’s not working. Maggie O’ gets stabbed by the kobold warrior before her, the one that is barely hanging on to life- some justice there. But justice is fleeting- it appears. Maggie smashes the aforementioned kobold warrior’s head in, and then moves on to assail the next in line. And that, believe it or not, is all there is to report- it seems everyone’s dice are borked this turn. Two kobold warriors lay dead. Oh, and the two kobold sneaky bastards? They’ve snuck off. Bastards! Turn three… Yen is running up that hill… Yen now freed up- with no enemies near the monk, leaps the fence and runs around the side/rear of the bluff- and then races up the path there, the easy way up to the top. The halfling monk crashes into the kobold warrior that Thugg has been ineffectively waving his greataxe at, wounding it- but not a lot. The kobold warrior is still very much in the fight. Note- Yen has cleverly positioned himself between the now wounded kobold warrior and Egg-Nog. Sadie keeps blasting- two more Fire Bolts hit the kobold warrior that Maggie has already wounded (one of them a Crit- again) and yet the kobold survives the ordeal, just… Egg-Nog, threatened, scampers back-a-way- and gets a quarterstaff in the side of the head from Yen for his troubles. The snarling kobold war priest spews and burps a noxious cloud at the monk (Poison Spray) but the halfling is too tough (after spending an Action Point to save again- success). Thugg gets slashed by the kobold warrior he’s still sparring with. The half-orc has had enough, two big hits later and the pesky kobold warrior is now sans legs. Thugg rushes on and buries his greataxe into Egg-Nog, a big hit, and now the kobold war priest is critically wounded too. And screaming in terror. Thugg, just about to stick his greataxe into Egg-Nog. Maggie O’ gets stabbed again. The Genocide Squad (except for Yen) are taking hits. The two kobold sneaks get back into the fight- creeping out from behind their respective bluffs to attack Sadie again- more remarkably (both attacks have advantage) the kobold’s fail to make their mark. Sadie is on the SUPERNOVA remember. Egg-Nog doesn’t look well. Maggie smashes another kobold warrior down, and then turns her ire to one of the sneaky bastards- her hammer describes a furious arc, and… it dies too. Maggie smashes down one of the sneaky bastards. The last kobold warrior on the road also takes a big hit. And that’s the end of the third turn of combat. Turn four… Yen runs past the gurning Thugg, who is just about to deliver the killing blow… and smashes Egg-Nog down. The halfling monk doesn’t stop running- doing a complete circuit of Thugg (and Egg-Nog’s fallen body) he rushes for the edge of the bluff and… Yen, lovely kill steal there. Leaps- flying feet/foot first and smashes into the last kobold warrior still standing. Moments later- after a second attack, the last kobold warrior falls. Note, Yen pressed the SUPERNOVA button (for free) when he killed Egg-Nog. Triple Supernova achieved. Again. That was a glorious kill steal-combo (Egg-Nog sniped from Thugg, the last kobold warrior stolen from Maggie/Sadie). Yen jumps onto a kobold warrior. Best foot (& Action Point- staff) forward/first, as the old saying goes. For good measure, Yen grabs out a dart and like a young (svelte/halfling) Jocky Wilson lets it fly- straight into the chest of the last kobold standing- the other bastard sneak. The terrified kobold turns to run. It doesn’t get far. Sadie’s last Fire Bolt (for a while) explodes the little critter’s head. The fight is won. The Genocide Squad dust themselves down, search the bodies- discover a little coin but more significantly- Egg-Nog was wearing an onyx (crudely) carved dragon pendant, it’s not magical but it looks to be valuable. Also, it has a symbol of Orcus scratched into it, as identified by Sadie. The kobolds are in on it- the cult thing. The Genocide Squad head back to Kirkgate, after a brief rest. Next time. Stay safe and well you lovely people. Cheers- The Genocide Squad and goonalan.
