D&D 5E D&D Beyond: Tieflings

I'd like to see a little more diversity among the planetouched....but lets not get as crazy with it as earlier editions.

I think the model we already have for racial variants is good with 3 tops.

I agree we shouldn't go crazy with the various Planetouched races as I pointed out in my not even exhaustive list of races, but having a few general subraces and options for a generic Planetouched race might be the way to go. Though one of the main concepts would be that they are like the "mutants" of the planes, a few options here and there for customization attached to themed chassis.

And honestly, the physical appearance differences could be something added to most any race. It may be narrower in variation, but it can be very helpful with the character dreation process.

The SCAG does kind of point out to none Infernal Tieflings. In FR specifically arguably not all Tieflings we're Planetouched, many we're descended from evil deities like Besheba, Lovstivar, Bane, ect..., but especially the evil Mulan Gods like Set, Sebek, Ianna, Nerull, and others. Just as Good deities produced Aasimar.

In fact the Hosts of the Evil Mulhorand Gods ARE Tieflings, Aasimar are the Hosts of the Good Mulhorand deities.

It's why Tieflings are treated with respect in Mulhorand compared to the rest of the realms.
Having aasimar or tieflings as children of the gods is actually quite cool. It gives a more solid reason to change up the racial powers based on the god the character is descended from. A tiefling descended from a god of the sea might have cold resistance and spells dealing with water instead of fire resistance and the standard suite of tiefling powers.
