D&D Character Occupations via EN World PJ 2

So has anyone used the ocupations, based off the d20 Modern ones in their d20 fantasy campaign?

The material in the EN World Player's Journal #2 is pretty good but I am worried about making things over powered as a lot of these classes grant bonus feats.

Anyone have any playtesting experience?

One thing I've thought about doing is granting 4 bonus skill points at first level that can only be spent on Craft, Knowledge, or Profession skills.

I wouldn't give out bonus feats as a part of occupations in D&D. It works in d20 Modern because the *only* feat you get from your class - any class - at 1st level is Simple Weapon Prof. Every D&D class except the wizard, sorcerer, and monk get more (generally much more) than that.

I've been using the rules for Fantasy occupations since I got ENWPJ#2, and they do seem to be erratic in their power levels. I mean... A wizard has access to all of the cantrips ANYway, so a Wizard's apprentice doesn't really get anything.

But so far, they haven't done much of anything balance wise. I wish there were more occupations, and more feats to go with them... (HINT HINT HINT at whoever wrote the article, which I don't have handy) I'd love a sequel to this article.

:D

We played d20Modern for a while before 3.5 came out, and the one thing I knew that we would do immediately for the new 3.5 campaign was to have Occupations/Backgrounds.

We have only had about 6 gaming sessions since starting with 3.5, but so far everything has been going great with these backgrounds. Here's a link to what I created for the group:
