The Simpsons classic "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!". I think we've all been on both sides of that lol. I can't speak to MTG Twitter, but I can say with some confidence that a lot of the people who make threats and systematically harass people consider themselves to be "policing the community". They may get ostracized for it - but that's not what matters - what matters is that they get too embarrassed/ashamed/cognitively dissonance'd to keep doing it. And companies openly saying "Shut up, you're wrong and bad and you don't represent us!" is very good for that. This is literally not a rational argument you're presenting. There's nothing here. This is merely the opinion "I like the status quo" followed by the opinion "Contractors shouldn't be allowed to have benefits". Okay? People increasingly disagree. Here's neat thing! It doesn't matter whether you debate it or not, it's already happening with tons of companies! It's well on the way to becoming the norm for companies heavily reliant on contractors. There's a whole sub-industry emerging around providing that kind of information - and not just to contractors! Any large company can actually benefit significantly when its employees have much better access to information and ability to procure benefits, even if it's out of their own pocket rather than that of the company. You can be a stick-in-the-mud about it, you can frown at it, but you've presented no rational arguments as to why this is a bad thing for anyone involved - it's relatively cheap for the companies who do it - again far less than hiring a full-time employee with benefits. So it's unclear, apart from "novelty" and "tradition" why you're against it? You've also misrepresented it a number of times - people aren't asking for their health insurance to be paid or the like, they're asking for things like the ability to access better health insurance, or even just information on obtaining health insurance. Do you see the difference between those things?
