[QUOTE="Ruin Explorer, post: 9670255, member: 18"] Not quite either. I mean, all the architects of 5E, who were also all its biggest fans/cheerleaders at WotC, Mearls, Crawford, Perkins have left WotC now. Mearls a bit back and Crawford and Perkins recently. I forget who is taking over (I think we do know), but I suspect they'll quite naturally have their own ideas on how D&D "should" be, and what it "should" do, and so I think we'll see 5E do some typical "end of edition" shenanigans, where stuff that was "missing" gets covered, everything gets "brought up to code", and probably we get some cool experimental books with interesting ideas, before we get an actual new edition. Also, the big thing that was going to "marry" WotC to a specific edition of D&D and a specific implementation of D&D was the 3D VTT/Sigil, which was initially costing them a huge amount to develop, and which, from WotC's own accounts, they saw as a tremendous future profit-center. And that's been unceremoniously kicked out the back door of WotC's truck whilst moving, bruised and forgotten, and left to fend for itself in the bad part of town! So WotC essentially has nothing "holding them down". D&D Beyond is obviously quite capable of retooling for a new edition, and is a solid brand in its own right. So I think we're on the way to a 6E - not in a huge rush - I wouldn't even expect real hints of a 6E for like, at least 3 years. But here's the problem! Every time I've guessed something WotC was going to do was a year or more away, WotC did it way, way, way sooner than I expected! (Getting rid of Crawford and Perkins being the most recent stuff I thought would take longer than it did!). So don't hold it against me if it is sooner! But I think 5E has some sales yet to make, and they'll probably bring back most previous 5E subclasses and races not currently updated to 2024 before they think about moving on, because it's kind of free money.
