I do want to chime in here on this. I personally live in one of the most highly populated areas in the country, DFW. I have a huge luxury of having a plethora of comic shops available to me within a reasonable distance. What that in mind, I still purchased all of my books on Amazon, ultimately not supporting my local shops. This pains me, truly. My wife and I have not given a penny to WalMart in over three years, just so we can spread out or business a little more (was surprisingly tough at first, just because of how convenient it was to pop in for something). Here's my dilemma; I have no problem paying a little more to get the product on time, hand picked from the shelf to support a gaming shop. But the pricing Amazon offers is 40% lower in some cases. I just cannot justify that difference. More disappointing is the local business' unwillingness to negotiate with me. This, ultimately, is why I have decided to purchase every book online to date. I get it. The shops cannot price match Amazon. Their costs may not even allow them to do so at a profit. But I would be happy to spend a few extra bucks with them in lieu of Amazon if they would just work with me. $50 MSRP book is available for $31.98 on Amazon, so ok shop owner, sell it to me at $40, and I'll buy it here and now. But I always get a "sorry, we can't do that", which is poppycock. I just am not going to spend $50 plus tax on a book I can pre-order and have shipped to my house for 62% of what you are going to charge me. I know they don't want to set a precedent. But they cannot complain business is slowing down and steadfastly refuse to work with customers at all.
