I spent a while trying to figure out whether this product deserved 1 or 2 stars. In the end, I asked myself, "Is it worth owning at any price?" When I realized that the answer is no, I concluded that I could not in good conscience give this product two stars. Since I would not keep this product on my bookshelf even if it were given to me for free, I cannot give it anything other than the worst possible rating. This product disappoints at every turn. The descriptions of the countries of the Flanaess are so superficial that they are practically worthless. The interior art is poor. The map has a bland appearance and is so lacking in detail that it would be of minimal value to either a player or DM. It is very important for the prospective buyer to understand that, for some reason, the poster map included with the product is NOT the one that is pictured on the cover! In my opinion, this is tantamount to false advertising. Another factor which taints my view of this product from a marketing standpoint is that this product was released almost simultaneously with the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (LGG). That product contains the same unremarkable map, but its written content is infinitely more useful and informative than the D&D Gazetteer. In general, I have been very happy with Wizards of the Coast in terms of the way it has marketed 3rd Edition D&D to its customers. However, the D&D Gazetteer is an unfortunate exception. It is shameful that Wizards would produce this awful product at exactly the same time that it was producing a superior product with an identical function (LGG). In conclusion, the Dungeons and Dragons Gazetteer is by far the worst 3rd Edition D&D product I have seen. I would not recommend buying it at any price. If you are interested in the countries, geography, and history of Oerth, the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer is a much better choice (even at more than twice the price).
