If I'm going to play an offensive melee character I want to kick butt and do a ton of damage and barbarians fit that bill. Howl is a full orc (not half-orc) and will do a ton of damage at 4th level. He has a 20 base Strength, and with a gauntlet of Ogre Power he'll do +9 damage on a two-handed weapon alone. When he rages he'll do +12, and he'll probably have a +1 weapon for +13. He'll obviously have Power Attack, and if he pulls in all 6 points of his base attack bonus he'll do +25 damage and still have a +9 to hit. A greataxe +9/+4 (1d12+25) makes <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" /><img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" /><img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" /><img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" /> look less offensive than Housen at 6th level!

The one I think will lose: Vazz. What the hell is this? A halfling? As a melee offensive fighter? However, he'll do some damage with his rogue level, and with his barbarian level he'll have a decent 17 strength. With his fighter levels he'll also have a nice selection of feats (6 total). With his high dex he saves a little money not needing full plate, netting a +8 AC from dex and armor alone. He'll need the mobility for being small; anything greater than light armor and he's at 15 ft speed. We know he's a two weapon wielder, and he'll probably have two weapon fighting, improved two weapon fighting and weapon defense as feats. He might also have dodge and mobility to get into flank positions, but with his rogue level he probably maxed out in tumble so he might not need those feats. Assuming flanking position, +1 weapons and the much needed gauntlets of ogre power, this guy will have +1 shortsword +9/+4 (1d4+5) and +1 handaxe +9/+4 (1d3+2). Without sneak attack he's getting an average of 22 daamge if all four connect without sneak attack (help, we need a cleric for these undead!) or 36 with sneak attacks. Not too shabby for a pure tank build, but his AC isn't going to be what it could at 6th. It will probably be about 20 or so when he's raging. I'm not feelin ya dog.

I later posted that I failed to see that Vazz's base attack is only +5, so no improved two weapon fighting and no iterative attack.
Our group is having a little "Fantasy Football" style competition based on this year's D&D Open character selection: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/genconindy/20070504a Each week we are making the following picks: Pick 1: Choose the character that you think will win the most votes. You receive a number of points equaling this character's final percentage of votes. If this character came in as the #1 character you receive a bonus 10 points. Pick 2: Choose the character that you would most want to play. You receive a number of points equaling this character's final percentage of votes. Pick 3: Choose the character you think will win the fewest votes. You lose a number of points equaling this character's final percentage of votes. Here's an example of the scoring system. Let's say the polls close Friday with the following results: Hardrada: 45% Vazz: 31% Howl: 24% My selections were: Pick 1: Hardrada Pick 2: Howl Pick 3: Vazz If you use my picks as an example I picked the right winner. I get 45 points, plus a bonus 10 points, for a total of 55. I also get 24 points for picking Howl, so that's 79 total. Vazz showed me that he's not a total loser (or at least everyone else doesn't seem to think so), so I subtract 31 from my total. My final score for Round 1 would be 48. Had I picked Hardrada for both my favorite and the winner and picked Howl as the worst I would have topped out the max score at 76. If I had picked Howl as my favorite and overall winner and picked Hardrada as the loser I would come in with a whopping 3 points for the week. There are six rounds altogether and the player with the most points at the end of it all wins free pizza on their next game. To add to the excitement, we play twice a week (on Wednesdays and Sundays) with different campaigns and players on each day, so the winner determines who pays for pizza. Would anyone like to play here too? No pizza, but you get bragging rights. Here were the thoughts I posted to our group: The one I think will win: Hardrada. The warblade is from Tome of Battle and I've never played one before. I did play a crusader once and it was lots of fun.
