Crit Hit The Giant (YouTube) recorded the panel, D&D Past and Future Panel with Luke and Dan @GaryCon, consisting of Luke Gygax, Dan Ayoub, Justice Arman, and Kara Kenna. It is about 55 minutes and because the panel was not wired for sound, you will have to turn the volume up. I am only about 15 minutes in while posting this, but this panel is expanding upon some of the ideas from previous YouTube videos from the Con. My take away so far is that they are going to finally take supporting retailers serously with longer lead times (so stores can plan), books tied to a theme, and other products supporting that theme. There is also an internal push withing the D&D group at WotC to strengthen ties with 3rd party providers. Also WotC is going to publish more than just Melf's Guide to Greyhawk from Luke Gygax. Luke spoke about his vision of Greyhawk that is a combination of the world he grew up in with his father but bringing it forward to the modern age. It will be grittier than bog standard D&D but not a grim as Ravenloft. Luke talked about the social bonding through D&D and welcoming in new players of all ages to the tribe of gamers (he is speaking in the broader sense of RPGs, Card Games, Board Games, and Video Games). It doesn't matter how they arrive in our community, it is important that they came. Justice talked about how D&D helps build empathy and helps people in times of struggle in their lives. He emphasised how important it is in building communities with shared experiences. Luke talks about how this can build bridges between people that would not share much in common.
