D&D Session Without Combat

We had a session Saturday night where we ran ONE combat that lasted about four hours, and it's still not done. Ah the joys of D&D...

Bah. I like D&D because of its SHORT combats, compared to my other main system.

I must admit, as a DM, I like monsters, and I like fighting, so it's a rare session when there is no fighting.

In fact, there's never been one...

Hm...

Lol, I remember reading about them testing the deck of many things on that poor sap.

I thought it funny that the PCs always act holy and righteous (the groups name is 'The Slayers of Evil', LOL!) and all that heroic stuff, but when they heard that they would have to go to Abyss to save the test-beggar and kick some demon-ass, they were all of a sudden like: Gee, I dunno, you were the one who drew the cards, you know?

Even when they hadn't told said beggar that the cards were, well, somewhat magical. :)

Combat is exciting. I think it is te factor of uncertainty that makes it exciting. After all: you still have to roll the dice...
But remember: using skills also makes PC have to make their rolls...
Info gathering, crafting, sneaking,... can be every bit as exciting as a walk down Monster Manual Boulevard...

Hey if you walk into the main gate of the evil temple and announce, "I am a Paladin of Herionious", you better be ready to face the guards...and boy are there a lot of them. Not to mention the undead they keep summoning...
