While you are going on about power tripping (usually newer or burned out take it or leave it) gm's you are ignoring that the rules as written(and your post) <a href="https://www.enworld.org/threads/d-d-update-2024-rulebooks-survey-results.700891/post-9193504" target="_blank">literally</a> put the player in the very my way or the highway no discussion toperat position you are describing.  Even you have largely demonstrated the extent of that shield by engaging this with multiple posts throughout the thread where you entirely ignore any reasons a gm might want to change benefits to changing it and problems caused by the way it's presented in the phb.  You've instead chosen to focus exclusively on how the GM is overstepping and how players need to be shielded from an out of control (likely inexperienced) gm.</blockquote>
