[QUOTE="ReshiIRE, post: 9194163, member: 7031231"] If I ever were to do rolling, I'd probably do 3d6; but the twist is that everyone gets the same array after each player rolls an array array, and then the players vote on which array they want to use. Best of both worlds; nobody too advantaged or disadvantaged ala standard array, but still a broader array of abilities for all players. Quite a bit of statistical differences while eliminating truly abysmal arrays. Overall, I think it'd work. To be honest though, I do wonder how much 5e's design around stats works for rolling, but that's a different discussion * * I'm starting to wonder whether it would be worth creating a post on an idea I've gotten because of this thread: in a bounded accuracy game like 5e, wouldn't it make sense for the maximum ability score limit to be lower than it is, and for it to be possible to get your max ability score on character creation - to enable rolling to be more exciting and variable, and to make the choice between ASI and feats** more interesting? (a choice between shoring up weaker saves or improving other key statistics or improving your character in some other way) ** yes yes, Feats are a variant rule, but it's the type of variant that if it became a standard, I don't think it'd take anything away from any table, due to the fact there's always an explicit choice between ASIs and feats built in?
