Someone could roll the standard array precisely, or any possible point buy combination. Hence, of the full set of possible numbers, rolling is the full set and the array and point buy are subsets found within the full number set. If the full set was unbalanced, it wouldn't be the standard method set out in the book. WotC designers have been very clear over the years that most people don't optimize, and the game is balanced around suboptimal PCs. Optimization is not necessary for the game ro work.Adventurer's League is not the standard for the game in any fashion, it's one set of table rules for a particular low-trust environment.</blockquote>
