Imagine you rolling a full array of 4d6-drop lowest for your ability scores. Then roll that 4 more times. Pick the best array. The array you pick tends to be higher scores, sure. But my change is that you only roll it once, and the other players (and maybe the DM) each roll an array as well. Everyone gets to pick the one they want from the pool of arrays. Everyone gets to roll and contribute to the gamble, and in the end there is a safety net that ensures that everyone gets to be competent and balanced with one another.</p><p></p><p>The joy in my players' faces when they realize they can have an ability score spread that goes against the cookie cutter array with traditional dump stats/skills.
