D&D's Future ?

Honestly, because they are a publisher, not a software development shop. Historically, getting a good piece of software made has been a struggle for them.

Why hasn't WotC released a version of D&D on the DS or DSi to introduce a new generation to Dungeon and Dragons ???

Actually, in order to make D&D hip again, I would go the Apple route and use the advertisement budget to get some product placement in "hip/geeky" movies and TV shows like The Big Bang Theory.
Anybody remember that scene where Eliott's brother and buddies were playing D&D near the begining of ET?

I would also buy ads in Wired magazine and all the videogaming mags (I don't buy those, so I don't know if they already did that)

They do (or did).

And I have no need for them to make D&D a fad again by trying to tie it to other fads. But saying that they do need to reach out to new venues, and the Tiny Adventures was darn good... they need to rerelease that with basic 4e rules.

They came out with a Facebook ap awhile back- that seemed a step in the right direction, but the game became quite boring quite fast.

It does seem you could find a company to make a D&D game though. The DS has several good RPGs, but from what I've seen- most are just re-makes or ports of older titles.

I'd buy a DS game, and think (if it were a decent game)- it'd sell well and certainly couldn't hurt their market. The DS would do well with an Eye of the Beholder type game- something with simple graphics, an engaging plot- and would be able to use many of the D&D rules.

I agree that we don't need to tie D&D to other fads, but WotC should be looking for the next generation of smart teenagers...

If i am not mistaken they can't. Atari has those rights?

Atari has the rights until 2017... and I don't think they will let it sit stagnant given they recently renewed this. I expect next year sometime you will start seeing something similar to D&D Tactics on the handhelds and hopefully the PC too, but using 4E ruleset.

Personally, I'd love to see another multiplayer D&D centric game, something like Temple of Elemental Evil, only with a interface that allows a DM to tell stories through it with a world builder and such... a la Neverwinter Nights. This I would buy in a heartbeat.
