D20 Future: Ship Building (HD/Weight etc.)

Hiya!

This is my first posting here. Nice to meet ya all...

I have posted this request over at the WotC boards already, but I want to gather as much feedback (and perhaps an answer by the brains behind D20F) as possible. So, here goes :-)

--- snip ---

I just got my copy of D20 Future. Cool book, as far as I can see. Now, there's one thing bugging me. I'm planning to convert a space-opera themed campaign of mine into D20 (Future) and would like to add a couple of ship designs from my old campaign. The ship building chapter in the D20 Future book offers a Freighterload of items to play around with, but the "basics" are either missing or very well hidden, especially the rules for creating ship hulls from scratch (I *love* to design my own flying coffins!)

Question 1:
What is the upper limit for HD per Ship Type? I know how many guns I may add per couple of HD, but I don't know how much is the upper limit. It's a biggie for me, since I'm very much into fighter craft, and having a fighter with 18-24D20 seems a little... unbalanced to me (Tie Fighters, in Plate Armor?!)
I have seen "Ultralight" space ships with 6D20's (like the orbital shuttle) and Ultralights with 20D20 (escort), which is a HUGE difference in capability (and endurance).

Question 2:
The "default" ship hulls, as presented in the book, _do_ have weight figures, but how do I calculate weight for hulls designed from scratch? Is there a formula like (superstructure x height + width + length) = xxxx tons? And if, where is it hidden?

I would very much like to know, since several of "my" ship designs are MUCH smaller than the default fighter/assault fighter (more in the Star Wars vein...)

Thanks in advance
The 'beast

Star Wars D20 had the Starship Builders guide. You might be able to find at your game store or even order it from amazon or some such. Its pretty cool. That might help you out.

The answer apparently is, you have to go buy the Starship book for the old Atlernity game, then figure out how to convert that to d20...

:\

This was something I was ranting about earlier (not here). Why do we get details on how to build mecha but not starships? It is really ticking me off.

Alternity ship building doesn't seem to difficult to convert to d20. Heck, almost all the terminology, hull types, PLs, are the same.

For example,
Its obvious right away that an Alternity ship's hull points is 1/10 the Hit Points of a d20 Future ship.

Anybody else take a serious stab at this?

Well we can only hope its because Wizards is planning some kind of starships suppliment in the future (I read somewhere that they are going to be releasing several books for d20 Modern next year). I wouldnt hold my breath though.

No offense guys, but building them isn't that hard...

While no upper limit to HD were listed for starships (Mainly because I think a kilometers long Berserker is going to have more than 100d20 HD) just use a little a common sense.

Personally, I've been using a small formulae I got by doing hieght times length times width and a little guesswork.

Same for the wieght.

Other than that, it's been pretty easy. The book had all the rules, and it was fairly easy to extrapolate.
