I liked the space combat rules quite a bit. Much preferable to the fanboy fav systems that require an excel spreadsheet for ship design and a t-square for combat. Everyone seems obsessed with "realism" in space combat games. Now for a minute we'll ignore that the "silly" rules they used (the regular combat system) are also pretty silly when depicting melee combat and that no one seems to have a big problem with that. You know... "ok... I swing... now he swings... now I swing again... now he swings..." and the "ow that's the third time he's hit me with that 2-H sword, this is starting to get serious"... THAT combat system. Totally "silly". However, give me that over real combat which would be "I am a mighty warrior, I fought in the crusades, I have killed a hundred men. Hey, its a peasant with a bow... AHHHHHH Im shot in the shoulder! Im bleeding... must use molten tar to staunch the wound..." Then you die of an infection three days later. No, let's put aside for a moment that the combat system is based on playability and not "realism". First thing I want is someone to explain to me the "reality" of space combat. You know, last I read, there had never been one. Not a single ship or weapon designed for such a combat, and not a single engagement in the history of mankind. But please, tell us all how it should go down in "reality". It basically sounds like people were expecting some new crunchy system and feel "cheated" that the rules they already know were used. Or that they didnt rip off the "realistic" system from {insert the name of your ideal science fiction game here- usually Classic Traveller or Alternity}. Chuck, reaching for another flag for piling on. PS The game is good guys, give it a chance instead of slamming it after a "cursory read through". PSS These conversations really remind me of the knee jerk reactions people had to d20M the more I read them. You know "what?!?!? no 20 level classes?!?!? what are these base class thingies. They're teh suck that's what they are!" And "what?!?!? they use the D&D magic system in the modern world instead of {insert the name of your ideal gritty horror game magic rules here usually Call of Cthulhu}?!?!?!?"
