Chapter I -To Rivendell October 21st, of the year 2953, Third Age of the World You have each travelled to Rivendell, for reasons that are your own. Regardless of whether the House of Elrond is your final destination or merely a waystop on your journeys, the promise of the peace and comfort to be found there lightens your heart. Coming alone or with others you have made your way over mountains and across rivers until finally you approach the ford of the River Loudwater. Beyond the river you can see the wooded ravines and valleys that shield Rivendell from the outside world. Your goal is nearly in sight; and with night fast approaching, you are quietly relieved. As you begin to cross the ford, you pause as others figures come into view. In the fading sunlight, you each realize other travellers are on the same path as you, and heading toward Imladris. Gathering on the western bank of the river, there are five of you; two men, two elves, and a dwarf. Before you can hail the others, or speak any word of greeting or challenge, a sharp cry turns your gaze to the forest to the west. A small shaggy brown pony emerges from the trees, a slumped over dwarven rider visible upon its back. The animal stumbles at a slow walk toward you, and a great crimson gash can be seen upon its haunch. Behind the pony, you see four men on foot running furiously. Each carries a spear and sheathed sword. Dressed in rough animal skins and leather armor, they cry out in a guttural tongue as they chase behind the wounded pony. All of the men have long dark unkempt hair and their faces bear wild, angry expressions. One stops and hurls his spear at the dwarven rider, but misses the pony and rider. The dwarf weakly raises his head and sees your group at the ford before he slumps into unconciousness. Now 60 feet away, the wild men begin to close upon their target.
