As day breaks, Elrond attends to his guests. As the party later realizes, little occurs in Rivendell that Elrond is unaware of. Moving silently through the halls of Rivendell, Elrond notes the tenor of their discussions. In receiving Radagast that night, Elrond replies, "I am sure that your presence will serve as a stabilizing influence on the company. I bear no grudge in my heart for things now past Radagast, and I hope the future finds us to be better friends." Later that morning, everyone gathers in the balcony of their lodging at Elrond's request. The new sun's light streams through the trees with the promise of another fine autumn day. The master of Rivendell smiles and begins,"First I believe Vestri shall recover. He is however greatly weakened and should not travel. I believe some orc poison has been at work in his body. Most difficult to disern, but it is present. Though he wishes to go, he is in no condition." Elrond walks forward among the group,"Of your intentions, I belive I have a good felling of your thoughts. Of the rangers, your duty seems clear. And your efforts are ever appreciated by those of us who know what you do. Balin's position is known, though I would caution him not to allow his passions to guide his actions too greatly. And as for Radagast, he too indicates his willingness to assisst. His wisdom should be a valuable asset." Turing to Haldir and Legolas, he continues,"As for my kin, I can no more command you as I could command the stars in the sky. I am greatly appreciative of the warnings brought from the Golden Wood. I am not, however, completely unaware of the threat from the East. It is because of this threat that I allow my children to wander, for soon the time may come that such freedom will be gone." "However," he says his tone lightening, "I am no ones master here. The experience of Mirkwood and Lothlorien would be of great aid to this company, but it is not mine to command."
