[QUOTE="Zubkavich, post: 501823, member: 8810"] In terms of powers and abilities, we tried to make sure it wasn't more powerful than the Mage or Acolyte. In many ways, this class is a bit weaker. Considering that the Mage has a familiar, item creation, alchemy abilities and more skill points... the higher save isn't that big a bonus. The Acolyte's got two kick ass saving throw columns as well as a half-decent hit die and BAB. In comparison to both of the other spell-slingers, the Eldritch Soul doesn't seem out of line, stat wise. We thought of the awareness in terms of being aware of your surroundings and inadvertantly being aware of "something more" in the world. We wanted to give a sense that magic is beyond normal perception (especially in the way D20 Modern presents it), and what-not. An Eldritch Soul's awareness is what has helped them to "see" magic around them and instinctually take hold of it. It obviously doesn't mean that every character with high Wisdom and observatory skills (Sense Motive, Spot, Listen) is magically oriented, it's just common ground for this class. Use Magic Device isn't like a Rogue or Occultist tinkering with an item until it works. We figure it would play out in game more as the magic of the item "responding" to the Eldritch Soul if a successful roll was made. The same skill and mechanics rules-wise, but a different role-playing view of it in game. On each part of the Advanced Class, we strived to make sure it wasn't a power class, was balanced and yet it had something new to offer. I appreciate your honest critique. You have to admit though... I posted at 11 minutes after the hour and you responded at 19 past. Reading my post, downloading the pdf, reading it, comparing it to the D20 Modern Advanced Classes, passing judgement on it and responding to my post in less than 10 minutes is a bit fast... :) Hopefully playing the class in-game would give you a better chance to see how it balances out.
