[D20 Modern] Arcane, Divine and Psionic FX and Feats (Including Ritual Magick!)

Im writing article son my campaign setting. Since Mage/Acolyte/Battle Mind and Telepath are not Open Gaming Content, i have to make my own.


There are hushed whispers about those who gather in large numbers and practice the ancient rites of the ancient people. They practice Ritual Magick.

Ritual Magick can be used by anyone who can cast arcane and divine FX. FX cast with ritual magick can choose to use one, two or all of these FX enhancements for their rituals. Because Rituals take so much out of someone, roll a Fortitude Check and then consult the chart below to determine the DC to make sure the ritual goes off without a hitch.

For however many points you fail by, is how many HP you take from arcane or divine energy being channeled through your body.

New Feats

Empower Spell [Ritual]

Benefit:
All variable, numeric effects of an empowered FX are increased by one-half. An empowered FX deals half again as much damage as normal, cures half again as many hit points, affects half again as many targets, etc., as appropriate. Saving throws and opposed rolls (such as the one the character makes when the character casts dispel magic) are not affected. FX without random variables are not affected. An empowered FX uses up a FX slot two levels higher than the FX's actual level.

Enlarge Spell [Ritual]

Benefit:
An enlarged FX has its range doubled. FX whose ranges are not defined by distance do not have their ranges increased. An FX whose area or effect is determined by its range has the dimensions of its area or effect increased proportionally. An enlarged FX uses up a FX slot one level higher than the FX's actual level.

Extend Spell [Ritual]

Benefit:
An extended FX lasts twice as long as normal. FX with a concentration, instantaneous, or permanent duration are not affected by this feat. An extended FX uses up a FX slot one level higher than the FX's actual level.

Heighten Spell [Ritual]

Benefit:
A heightened FX has a higher FX level than normal (up to 9th level). Unlike other ritual feats, Heighten Spell actually increases the effective level of the FX that it modifies. All effects dependent on FX level (such as saving throw DCs and ability to penetrate a minor globe of invulnerability) are calculated according to the heightened level. The heightened spell is as difficult to prepare and cast as a FX of its effective level.

Maximize Spell [Ritual]

Benefit:
All variable, numeric effects of a maximized FX are maximized. A maximized FX deals maximum damage, cures the maximum number of hit points, affects the maximum number of targets, etc., as appropriate. FXs without random variables are not affected. A maximized FX uses up a FX slot three levels higher than the FX's actual level.

An empowered, maximized FX gains the separate benefits of each feat: the maximum result plus one-half the normally rolled result.

Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)
The warded creature gains resistance to ranged weapons. The subject gains damage reduction 10/+1 against ranged weapons. It ignores the first 10 points of damage each time it takes damage from a ranged weapon, though a weapon with a +1 enhancement bonus or any magical attack bypasses the reduction. The damage reduction increases with the caster level to 10/+2 at 5th, 10/+3 at 10th, 10/+4 at 15th, and 10/+5 at 20th. Once the spell has prevented a total of 10 points of damage per caster level (maximum 100 points), it is discharged.
 

If you are going to use these in a game, be sure to strike any name references. It kills the feel of Modern with a large axe to be referencing Tannil, Diety of the Hunt on every 3rd spell.
