d20 Modern build for the Grammaton Cleric

First Post
I lurk on these forums occasionally, and I remember reading a decent d20 Modern build for a PrC called the Grammaton Cleric, based on the movie Equilibrium.

Am I smoking crack, or did I read that here? I browsed many pages back, and couldn't find it.

Has anyone else seen or created a decent build for this PrC, here or anywhere else?

It was actually a Spycraft build, but could probably apply equally well to Modern. You just have to watch the overall power level of a Spycraft Advanced Class as compared to a d20 Modern Advanced Class.

P.S. If I were you, I'd copy and paste this to save it, if you want to keep it, because this comes from Google's Cache, and was lost from these forums when the Great Crash of May 2006 hit. It's also on the AEG Spycraft Forums, but I'm unsure where.

There was a thread on this at the D20 Modern WotC forums a while back. You don't need a new class. Go with Gunslinger, and make a gun kata feat, and one to deal with the chemicals.

No offense to the Gunslinger, but I totally disagree with your statement Psi. Modern is generic, sure, but something like the Grammaton Cleric is almost the entire reason you even have advanced classes (Expert Classes for Spycraft). If I was a player in a campaign featuring the kind of over the top action shown in the Equilibrium movie and then was shown a Gunslinger build as an example, I'd have to laugh. Doesn't evoke the spirit of the movie at all. Does anyone have a link to that WotC thread? I'd love to see that discussion.

Thank you very much. And yes, I saved it. I loved the abilities and the way they were written up.

If anyone could find that WotC link, I would appreciate that, too. If I find it first, I'll post it.

I would blend the Battlemind and the Gunslinger, personally. Pull a few more feats and powers from Expanded Psionics Handbook and you could make something pretty close.

If you are planning to convert this over to d20M, it may be helpful to have the text of the anticipate action - all characters are capable of taking anticipate actions, but the cleric's class abilites give him some significant improvments. As it's a Wisdom-based defense bonus, the Clerics Wisdom requirment and bonus to wisdom score all feed inot this maechanic.

In d20M terms this is almost certainly a move equivalent action.

Anticipate (Initiative Action)
1 Half Action • Error Range +0

The character may attempt to second-guess the action of 1 opponent. With a successful Sense Motive (Wis) check (DC 10 + the target’s base attack bonus), the character gains a dodge bonus to his Defense against attacks made by the chosen opponent equal to the character’s Wisdom modifier (minimum +1). This check possesses the Vision tag. This effect lasts for 1 full round.
With a critical success, the chosen opponent’s threat range with each attack made against the character is reduced by the character’s Wisdom modifier (minimum 20). This effect lasts for 1 full round.
With a critical failure, the character is thrown off-balance, becoming flat-footed.
Special Note: A character may only benefit from 1 Anticipate action targeting each opponent at any time. If a character takes a second Anticipate action to boost his Defense against an opponent when a previous boost is still active, the new action’s outcome replaces that of the previous one — even if it’s worse.

Glad you like the class - I had a great time putting together a revised version for Spycraft 2.0. The anticipate action let me really nail the feel for how Preston and co. operated in battle - they out-predict their foes .
