d20 Modern Dark*Matter Campaign

So, the new Menace Manual has really got me psyched for starting up a Dark*Matter campaign again, this time using the d20 Modern rules. I've dusted off all my D*M and Alternity books, and put together this chargen/campaign guide for the players:

http://chillingtales.com/downloads/d20dm.pdf

It's still a work in progress (I need to create spell/power lists for the various D*M FX). I also decided to not include a lot of Urban Arcana material short of the mundane equipment. I will be using the Modern Player's Companions from the Game Mechanics (minus the Urban Arcana inspired material in volume 2), as well as Ultramodern Firearms and few other Green Ronin goodies (Testament, Skull & Bones for Voodoo).

I'm still debating if I want to include Flaws from the excellent Book of Distinctions and Drawbacks Modern from Cryptosnark Games, and options from Tarot Magic by Mystic Eye Games if a player is so inclined. (Damn I love the mix and match power of d20!)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)

And if you live in New York City and are interested in playing, drop me a line at jjbardales@yahoo.com (yes, that two "j"s up front). Myself and another fine gentleman named Ralph Young are putting together a group that will be alternating between d20 Modern Dark*Matter and a Swashbuckling Adventures campaign (The Pieces of Eight Campaign: http://www.angelfire.com/hero/swashbuckler/) Gotta love those secret societies!

Hey Arthur,

Glad to hear you're interested :)

Ralph and I were thinking about running the games at Neutral Ground, mainly because it was more centrally located (he's in Brooklyn, I'm in Queens), but obviously there's no reason they have to be run there exclusively. We also talked about running on weekday nights because that fit our schedules a little better (we're old(er), and our experience with folks our age has been that weekends never work out for regularly scheduled activities) but again, I think we can be flexible with the times and days. It all depends on the group that we eventually put together.

It's not like the women are exactly beating a path to my door, and I still haven't bought my weekend home in the country. :)

NYC Game Day: Regretfully, one of my co-workers has decided to get married that day (not regretfully for her though), so I have to miss it. :(

We should try to meet up though - I'm certainly not adverse to heading out to Kings Games either to check it out. e-mail me - maybe we can meet up soon at NG or King's Games or what have you.

When using Dark Matter FX in d20Modern, I would recommend making the broad skills into feats, and the specialty skills into d20 skills that you can only buy if you have the associated feat. That would be much closer to the original way rather than making spell lists and requiring advanced classes and stuff.

Hmmm. That's an interesting idea to consider. Do you (or anyone) know of any pre-existing feat/skill-based d20 magic systems out there?

Not off-hand, no. I had a vague idea about making one for a high-fantasy version of d20M, but it never got past the idea stage. But you could always just convert the Dark Matter FX skills over.

I'd do the same with Alternity-style psionics, by the way.

More power to you. I'm in Salt Lake City, though, so I can't make it. But you guys have your fun and eat your cake too. :)

Cool. I'm going to try and head out there this weekend - I've been meaning to check the place out.
