All right, I've seen all kinds of questions about how do you work the Wealth system, why not just a cash amount, what happens when characters sell stuff, how do you work Wealth bonus for single encounters, etc. I can't find the answer to my question, which is: On pg. 204 of the d20 Modern Core Rulebook, under Wealth Bonuses for Adventuring Gains, it says: OK. So this sounds like I should take all the hazards and creatures and obstacles from my series of encounters, total their CRs up, and divide by the number of hazards, etc. to get an average. Then I calculate an EL using Table 7-6 on the next page, and then cut the EL in half. I've run into a problem. I've got three encounters. The first has three CR 5 opponents, for an EL 8 (bonus +11). The next has got a CR 4 and seven CR 2s, for an EL 8 (bonus +11). The last has a CR 8, three CR 4s, and a CR 3, for an EL 9 encounter (Wealth +12). I want to give the reward at the end of this third encounter, in the form of a wall safe spilling over with cash. When I take 5+5+5+4+7(2)+8+3(4)+3, I get a total of 56, which averages out (divide by 16) to 3.5. I drop the fraction, and then add 6 because there are (way) more than 6 hazards, so I get EL 9. When I cut that in half, I get EL 4, for a Wealth bonus award of +7. +7 is way less than if I had every encounter carry briefcases full of twenties! If I gave rewards out for individual encounters, the party would split a bonus of +34! What am I doing wrong? I think I'm dividing the wrong thing by 2, or I'm supposed to be adding more than +6 after averaging the CRs. I used to do it by counting the individual encounter EL as a CR because of a misreading in the steps on how to calculate EL. Using this (wrong) system, for the encounters above, I'd get 8 +8 +9 = 25 /3 = 8 +3 = 11 /2 = 6, for Wealth +9. I sure hope you can help!
