Probably something that the entire scope of the idea isn't based upon any particular movie, tv show, vidoe game, or book. Gaining motivations from these elements is fine, but I, personally, would not like to play in a game where I am reliving something that I have already seen. Taking D20M and creating a campaign that puts you in Sunnydale with Buffy and her friends is a bit stupid. Perhaps take the concept of the magic, type of vampires, and atmosphere to create something that has the feel of what you like. All you have to do from there is to expand upon it to create your own world. Don't make lost and never seen before episodes of the tv show. Don't ruin someone else's idea that they heave already marketed. Sit in a room by your self, and be creative. It really isn't that hard. There are original ideas out there, and, yes, they are few and far between. But, they are there. All you have to do is try hard, and never quit creating. Perhaps your idea isn't really original, but have your friends seen it before. There is a chance that they have not. All I am trying to say is that people need to be a little more creative. They just need to try, and it will come to them.
