D20 Modern meets Planescape?

I'd like some suggestions for an idea I have for my D20 Modern/Future campaign.

Recently, the heroes encountered a demon working for the bad guys, and had quite some difficulty putting it away. So logically, I thought perhaps their research department might come up with the idea of them visiting the Planes to obtain celestial help.

But here's the rub: I don't want the Planes to be stuck in the quasi-medieval D&D-type setting, I want them to be modernized (or Modernized, as the case may be). If demons can have semi-automatic weapons in the Modern world, why can't celestials and demons be having it out with laser rifles and lightsabres on the Planes?

Basically, what I'm asking is has anyone tried this before? Does anyone have any suggestions or warnings?

I guess Hell and Heavens are mythological places to begin with. As such they need not be bound by the normal laws of physics. They are bound by whomever holds the most magical power. As such not only technological items may not work (or at least worl extremely erratically), but such places obviously violate the laws of physics: distances seem to vary, the interior of a building may be bigger than its exterior, etc. As such, native may still rely on simple melee weapons. Now some kind of technology may still be possible, but I would suggest Chaositech (by Monte Cook) to present something devious. Some demons could have machine guns, but these may not work against a celestial's damage reduction, etc.
