d20 Neverwhere

Thomas Hobbes

First Post
Has anyone read this book by Neil Gaiman? A friend and I were thinking of doing a one-on-one campaign set here, and I'm debating whether Dungeons and Dragons or d20 modern would be the better system, among other things. Any other reccomendations would also be appreciated.

Personaly, I would lean towards using d20 Modern with Urban Arcana (but I have yet to get my copy of UA so I won't commit to that)

I would think Urban Arcana would be a good fit since you can just redo "The Shadow" to "London Below." As for magic, just keep incantations or use the spell system from CoC. (Oh how I love the Lego-ness of d20) Though once again, I would try they d20 FX system first.

The only thing I would add is that every character would have to choose being from either London Above, or London Below. And then the character would suffer the occasional -2 circumstance penalty for socail interactions (or other actions which would make sence). Then there would be a Feat that would allow you to act as a native in both worlds.

Keep in mind that very few people traveled between the two worlds. Richard Richard Meyhew Dick, was stumbling about the socail customs up until the end of the story. Door and Caliban were exceptions. But then they would be "higher level."

Good luck and let us know.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I rather expect the game to not be terribly combat heavy, but at the same time I don't want the player (who is relatively inexpierienced) to get killed in her first combat. So I think I will use d20 modern as the base. Luddite, you reccomendations about native of above or below are quite good.

If it gets off the ground any time soon, I'll post an update.
