d20 Sourcebook on Villages

Water Bob

I'm about to map out, to the person, the village I've been using in my game. But, before I go to all that work, I thought I'd check to see if I can find a suitable d20 supplement that features a well described and mapped village. Maybe something I can adapt.

My village would be like Conan's home village. Very low-tech (and probably no magic--but, as I said, I can adapt). Suitable for barbarians in the the wild.

Any suggestions on a d20 supplement that would save me some work?

The only thing I know of that has village maps are the OLD Judge's Guild Village books. They were great. Hex map after hex map of small to large villages. I have used and reused and re-reused mine. But I'm sure the only way to find them is in used book stores. I don't think they've been converted to pdf...

The only thing I could suggest is Westbrook: Beginnings. It's not barbarian, but it is a frontier town, so possibly would fit, though probably not.

It's also not overly well described, only about 30 NPCs and 20 locations.

There's 7 Cities from Atlas Games which details 7 communities of different sizes, starting with a Thorp and increasing in size up to Large City.

Steve Kenson's Cliffhangers Adventures The Village of Camiram might also help.

If you expand d20 to include Pathfinder I'm sure there are more: Swallowfeld for example which is set in Raging Swan's excellent Lonely Coast setting (http://www.ragingswan.com/ has many enhancements...)

If it's only maps you seek try 0one games.

If you need assistance with NPCs maybe my NPC thread compilation can be of assistance. It has links the great Commoner thread by MavrickWeirdo and Turanil's excellent d100 NPCs thread among others.

In a similar vein books like Toolbox d20, Ultimate Toolbox, Experts d20 can assist you in building quick NPCs, towns, shops and/or villages.

This thread may be of interest for you: Designing a mini-sandbox in a wiki? which resulted in the Hengistbury wiki collaborative wiki. Perhaps you can use a wiki to build the village and recruit some help from the Hengistbury wiki and/or thread.

Also here's an older thread :Need realistic Barbarian village

Cities & Settlements (Troll Lord Games). Has about 18 different locations from humans over gnolls to hags. I adapted a few of those for other situations before - I didn't need a hag settlement. :)

The Village of Briarton (Gold Rush Games). Very detailed NPCs. Nice artwork, and the maps, while not great, fulfill their purpose. There is no detailed village map though.

Umberham - A Town (The Forge Studios). A bit too large maybe, as you are looking for a village. But it has a village feel with fields and an orchard inside town, and the houses spread out wide. Great NPC details, details on the law and the maps are quite good. although not stunning, as above.
