D20 sports?

Between the world cup soccer, French open tennis and mu Aussie Rules football team doing so well, I was wondering if there were any d20 sports games out there?

Just yesterday, I was thinking the same thing! Specifically, re D20 football (soccer). I think you could adapt D&D's rules quite easily. I don't know if anyone has done it yet.

;)

here's an idea...

(I'm being a bit weird here, so bear with me.)

How about something along the lines of Mutant League Sports (a game that was on the old SNES and Genesis), where generally speaking, the rules are the same as "normal" sports, but sometimes, just sometimes people die or are blown to bits or are fried by a fireball...

Just an idea, but it may be fun, especially with the simplicity of the D20 system...

Hehe, I can see it now...

"Kursk, the Barbarian Halfback charges down field, faking left, faking right.... NOOOOO!!! They are going to have a mess to clean up with that one..." - Cuts to Kursk being decimated by a highpowered fireball as the soccer ball goes flying the opposite direction.

One of the d20 issues with such sports is turn based movement. Racing the wide receiver to the endzone is just not the same with turns (damn he's open, he just double moved from the cornerback and he's got 60 feet of space).

Given that all these sports (well, except baseball) have a dozen or more players moving at once, it gets kind of hairy. The one game I really didn't like in Tournaments, Fairs and Taverns was Baal'meral'ruun for just that reason.

PS

I've been formulating d20 Fantasy Golf... It may show up... somewhere. Can't say for sure. But it was inspired by the cover of the BLUFFSIDE: CITY ON THE EDGE book. The farmland on the top of the picture looks like a golf course.. :D

one of the things I've been working on with Cybernetic Sorcery Studios is a OGL game system that is quicker and easier than d20...but fully compatable with d20...something for younger kids to play that could be used for one shot games or to use as something fun and quick if you wanna break away from your normal campaign for a session or two.....

one of the settings is actually influenced by the mutant league football and hockey games from snes...

i have been tossing around the idea for intergalactic bashball, which is like a combo of american football and rugby, for the dragonstar galaxy.

A d20 might not give a wide enough range for the batter-pitcher match-up, but as a non-clocked game, baseball could work. You would think of batting averages and on-base percentage as numbers to beat on a "thousand sided die" followed by a bunch of modifiers for the pitcher's stats.

I'd really like to have real-world sports playable in fantasy environments so campaign worlds could have their own Olympics and World Cups complete with political intrigue like boycotts and national rivalries. Neutral guilds of Boccob could be brought in to put spells in place that stop magical cheating. Are there any sports out there (besides horse racing jockeys) where halflings and gnomes could reasonably expect to be competitive on the same field as half-orcs, or would they always need their own "small sized league"?
