I'm not familiar with the setting, so I can't judge it in context, but...

I think it is a fantastic piece of art! Very well done, very evocative. I have made it my new wallpaper at work, and when I e-mailed it to my wife (I liked it so much I wanted her to see it), this is the response she sent me (I sent her no contextual info, just the image):

That's a really neat picture. Thanks for sending it over. I love the shadowy faces in the background. I got the feeling that he was on another plane. Why don't they have artists this talented illustrate the TSR books? It's really beyond me where they find their artists. I am sure that there are plenty of extremely talented people who would like to break into the field. Do you think they find less talented people because they are cheaper so they can maximize their profits? Hmmm...

Not to offend anyone who likes the TSR art, but we have just finished reading through the Wheel of Time book and, I'm sorry, no contest. If you have more art online, please share it!

Oh, man.... Blood Jester's reply has me teeming with pride. His wife's reaction (and the fact he made it his wallpaper) really boosted my confidence!! How incredibly cool posting here has been. I tend to get burned when I post my art. People see it as an opportunity not just to critique, but to nit-pick every little thing, until my self-confidence is ground into the dirt. The response I've received from this piece (however-still in need of some work/retouches) has overwhelmed me, and I'm going to go now, and cry into my pillow for the rest of the day.

But first, I need to be sure to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to this post. Thanks, Burned Man, for posting this thread... I'm about to go check out the other one you posted (that makes 3 for this pic, heheh).
