Daft Mount Question...

Dont ask where this idea came from, I'm a little fuzzy about how it arose in the first place...

What would happen if a character were riding a blink dog?

The best I can figure, is that the rider is considered 'gear' and therefore 'blinks' when the dog does... however, there's nothing in the blink dog entry, or the spell description that gives me a decent answer...

Can anyone help?

And as a bonus discussion, should you like to contribute: What are the most rediculous/ most fun mounts your characters have used?

As written in the 3.5 MM, the rider would fall off when the blink dog blinks or dimension doors. The blink spell is personal only, and the dimension door ability is limited to just the blink dog.

You could create a specially bred version that can affect a rider, or create a prestige class for the rider that allows it, or allow it to work with a bonded mount (like a paladin mount or druid animal companion).

I had an elven cleric/magic user back in 2e who rode a blink war ostrich, which had the ability to take the rider with it.

Am I missing somthing here?
Yup. A classic arcade game from the 1980s called joust. You rode a flying ostrich, and if you took to long to clear a level, then a pteradactyl appeared that was quite dangerous to deal with. Great game!
