Sure, that may be why MS has connected this to Bing, but why is OpenAI making it? What is the ultimate goal for image generating "AI"?

Can't say for OpenAI, but for competing company stability AI it's to display their knowledge of training models. Using image is one of the numerous applications of the ability to train model on company-specific data for business use. OpenAI probably seek the same goal, showcasing it's general LLM (chat-gpt) and its ability to construct goal-specific models.

If it can sell a few subs along the road, I think it's an added bonus.

I was going to see what some Starfinder monsters looked like but it has deemed the akata unsafe.
