Damaging dispel?

IIRC you're looking for dispelling gyre.

Are you thinking of Reciprocal Gyre? That does damage based on how many spell levels a character has on them but doesn't dispel the magic.

You can use Reaving Dispel to damage people if you successfully counterspell. But that's late in the game.

Otherwise you may be able to research a custom spell to do it.

The Voracious Dispelling invocation can do this. The damage is pretty low, more of a slap in the face than a meaningful method of killing someone, but its there. I don't remember if its a Warlock invocation, but I'm pretty sure its a Dragonfire Adept invocation.

I thought that Reaving Dispel STOLE spells from people when it dispelled them? Basically highjacks them from the target to yourself, and if you use it to counterspell, you get to retarget it. I don't recall there being any damage involved (unless you redirect someone's Fireball to their own face).

You're correct that you can steal spells with Reaving Dispel. One of the options you can do with it is redirect a spell if you counterspelled and I was thinking of your example above. Redirecting someone's fireball back into their face. But at the time you get Reaving Dispel (17th level!) you'll probably have better ways of making your enemies cease to be.

Voracious Dispelling is a warlock invocation and you're right. It's more of a "tut-tut, no magic for you" than a "Bwa ha ha ha, now I shall tear your spells off of you along with a few major muscle groups!"

In War of the Burning Sky we published various counterspells for the villainous inquisitors to use, including one or two higher-level ones that dispelled and dealt damage. I'll see if I can track them down and post them here.
