Confidential) and coincidentally Pearce was on director Mark Steven Johnson's short list, against Edward Norton.  Johnson couldn't decide who to offer the role to, so he called up fellow DD fan Kevin Smith and asked which one would be better to play the character.  Smith said neither and recommended longtime friend Affleck, which Johnson obviously thought was a good idea.Coincidentally, Affleck has stated he doesn't plan on reprising the role in any sequels, but would consider it if Smith was writing or directing.  Its funny, as opposed to him playing Murdock as I originally was I'll actually be disappointed if he doesn't return.</blockquote>
