I was thinking of converting this GDW setting to d20 modern? Any thoughts...

I wonder if I conversion would sell. Any thoughts from those in the d20 publishing industry?

The guy who wrote Dark Conspiracy, Lester Smith, works for (or is part of) Fast Forward Games/Entertainment, and since GDW went bankrupt, theoretically, the rights reverted back to him.

So I asked Jim Ward, if they were planning to do a d20 version of it. He said good idea, but no. (I think the rights to it might be somewhat confused, because there was another version later one - I dunno if Mr. Smith sold his rights or what).

If you're really really curious, you might drop by their website and ask. As long as you are polite, Jim Ward is quite nice.

What's Dark Conspiracy about? Is it similar to Dark*Matter or Conspiracy X, or Delta Green? If so, I'd say yes, there's certainly a market for a d20 Setting in that vein. Clearly, since Alternity, BRP and GURPS all did very nicely selling settings that focused on those types of themes. All of those have more similarities than differences, IMO.

I am not familiar with Dark Conspiracy on itself, but one of our Gamemasters did run a test adventure for D20 Modern with us, that was based on a Dark Conspiracy adventure (Heart of Darkness).
Basically, he only "invented" the stats for the NPCs.

It worked well, as as far as I can tell. Everybody liked the system, and the master intends to use other adventures. (he had this special adventure for several years, but was never able to use it, since he didn`t like the system)

From what I see (and what I played), I am looking forward to more adventures in this setting.

AFAIK, it preceded all of those.

It's also somewhat different from them (those games tend to be a ripoff of Bureau 13). DC is set in the near future, 2013. It's not quite cyberpunk, but somewhat distopian. It also features things like dimensional travel and psychic powers.

Anyway, basically, aliens visiting the earth accidently broke threw this seal that kept these really really bad thingies away from earth. Once they got out, they're now trying to take over the earth (and they took over most of the alien's minds). The PCs are trying to stop them.

What made it different was that unlike most games, in DC, PCs with superior firepower could successfully take out evil critters. While they couldn't go rushing into things, once they figured out the critters weakness, they usually stood a good chance of taking them out by something they do, as opposed to CoC, where the opponents are usually defeated by a magic spell or something.

Mustrum_Ridcully - I was thinking of using the adventure New Orleans in D20 modern..Glad you liked it. Keep us posted...
