darkness and light spells

In the spell discribtion it states that a daylight spell dispels any darkness spells of equal or lower level. And the same is in the discribtion of deeper darkness.

Do the caster need to make a dispel check when trying to dispel darkness/light?

The two spells automatically cancel each other out so that the prevailing light are restored. No caster level check is required, though Darkness or Light may be cast a second time.
