Most are somewhere in the middle on these issues.  These factors can make it very difficult to distinguish the how viable such deals are and what the consequences might be. Some referees won't discuss the metaphysics of their setting out of character but if they are willing to it helps to establish realistic expectations for cause and effect in that particular campaign.
