When enemies consistently roll well above 20 they laugh at your AC. I can cast shield to bring my AC to 21 but I don't often cast it since it doesn't help against the monsters we face. Giants have bonuses in the neighbourhood of +10 to hit which means that they only need to roll around a 12 to hit your paladin. The higher level demons and devils should also be able to get the job done.</blockquote>
