I've been playing 4e for a few weeks now, beyond that I've been playing solo RPGs for as long as I can remember (yes, I've played NetHack) and was thrilled when I heard about 4e because it gave me something to do with my friends (3.5 had too much to remember) so I bought the starter set, and afterwards the books. From the start of the game giving themselves 30 more stat points than normal to annoying the other players by arguing skill checks (claiming an instant fail on a diplomacy check to side with a dragon is unreasonable because he can speak their language) or making up random rules that apply to their powers, it's hard to deal with. Before anyone tells me to just tell them to stop, don't bother because that route has failed very many times. So I'm wondering if I'm alone in this world, or is there another DM that's dealt with this? How would you do it?
First off I'd like to say hi, I've lurked the site for some time but haven't joined till recently, so (omg) this is my first post. Anyhow, I've been reading a lot of the threads on this site and for the most part I must say that I'm rather jealous. A good deal of the people here seem to have parties that actually know how to roleplay and have a general grasp of the game. Sadly, this is not my case. Well, the game is great fun and all, but occasionally (I should say every time certain people show up) there comes a point where someone (and it's usually the same 2 people) starts being a little less than helpful.
