So, as I mentioned, I was planning a quick 14th level one-shot adventure, and just had to use Calastryx. The background was that the party was escorting a princess to her godparents, but was being tracked by an evil wizard, and her Dragon ally, Calastryx. A skill challenge set up how the battlefield would be set, as Calastryx scryed and hunted down the party. A success would allow them to engage her in a cave, locking down her movement. But the party failed, and I used a big, open field with plenty of high rocks for Calastryx to perch on while still lying within melee reach of the party. The PCs: - Goliath Warden - Warforged Fighter - Eladrin Storm Sorcerer - Drow Hunter - Dwarf Battle Cleric Battle was joined. Calastryx proved to be a worthy adversary. She challenged the PCs, which shows that Solo design is much better these days, and was fun to run. That said, it was a little frustrating that Encounter powers are the way to go against solos, especially ones that take multiple turns. Having the Warden put a -7 on Cal's melee attacks for a full round, or spending a full round prone can be a little frustrating. Also, the Hunter, between high Dex and Regal Lion stance, could hit Calastryx's AC on a 2, and there was darn all that Cal could respond with, considering the Hunter's high Reflex and general mobility. Still, considering she was at the PCs level, it was a good encounter.
