defending weapons

can you use more than one weapon with the defending property without using the traditional weapon slots? Let me give you an example. Grumph the dwarf has +1 defending gauntlet, +1 defending axe(held in same hand as gauntlet), +1 defending armor spikes, +1 defending shield spikes, +1 defending spiked helmet. Can he use the bonus from all of the items?

The 3E Main FAQ stated that you incur TWF penalties from the use of a Defending weapon in your off-hand, even if you don't attack with it.

I'd extend that, and say you can only benefit from the Defending property of a weapon you could attack with.

You can't make an off-hand attack with all of those... I'd only permit the bonus from two in a given round (assuming you're taking the TWF penalties).

You have to actually attack with the weapon in that round in order to take advantage of the defending effect. So, if the dwarf is able somehow to make five attacks in a round, then yeah he can get all those bonuses to his AC.

Ya know, they shoulda just called it a "parrying" weapon, with the description clearly stating that the weapon increases your defensive skills in combat.

Nice and easy....<sigh>
