D&D 3E/3.5 Defenses Against Nightmare Spell (3.5)

Dr. Niles Crane

First Post
I'm looking for any suggestions on how a character can prevent attacks by a Nightmare spell, aside from the use of a Dispel Evil (as per the Nightmare spell description). Specifically, would a Protection from Evil or Magic Circle against Evil spell (assuming a long enough duration to cover a character's sleeping time) stop the attack?

Any other suggestions for spells using just the PHB or official WotC sources?

Thanks!

Mind Blank certainly covers you.

Reincarnate will do it, if you come back as an elf.

Rope Trick works as well - the Range (Unlimited) means Nightmare reaches anywhere on the same plane of existence. And from Rope Trick: "Creatures in the extradimensional space are hidden, beyond the reach of spells (including divinations), unless those spells work across planes."

Any other sort of Planar travel - or a Magnificent Mansion - would have the same effect.

I don't think PfE or MCaE work, I'm afraid.

Thank you: I forgot to check the range and that would certainly do it!
