Demographics of DnD

What are the demographics of those who play Dungeons and Dragons? Race, income, gender, sexuality, age, marital status, nationality... Is there ANY hard info to answer this question? I mean, surely WotC, Hasbro, or TSR at some point did market research trying to answer this question, for marketing purposes if for no other reason. Has any of that data ever made it's way out to the public? Even if the data's not current... it's better than what I know, which is a big anecdotal nothing.

WotC did. However, as far as I know, little or none of that information was ever released to the public. Ryan Dancey did discuss some of the data they found, but it dealt with gaming habits (how many played CCGs, computer games, etc.).

Not available to the public, no. WotC did a goodly spot of market research in 1999, before the release of 3e, but the raw data was not released to the public.
