Demonwebs, dominate, and gaseous form

Playing Expedition to the demonweb pits, loads of fun,

some questions.

re the adventure.

In the whispering corridors, the map shows a tunnel going around the silver door, but elsewhere it sounds like one literally leaves the main tunnel, gets attacked by sporebats, then climbs back in on the other side of the silver door. Which is it? rather safe, or incredibly dangerous?

In the Yochlols encounter in the Pits, it states that the one Yochlol that is in gaseous form conducts melee attacks. I didn't think that was possible.

Finally, when a Yochlol casts dominate on our weak willed barbarian, she fails, and the party is in suddenly huge trouble. This kind of thing happens a lot with that barbarian. Are dispel magic, or the full minute casting break enchantment (or of course not yet expired protection from evil) the only ways to deal with this seemingly POWERFUL way to remove the main fighter from a group?

thanks!

I haven't any idea where your first question is concerned, other than to say that Sporebats can be incredibly annoying with their negative energy ray. Better to not run into them, if you have a choice.

Yochlols in gaseous form can't melee, that's for sure. Actually, it can't do much in gaseous form at all. Except maybe escape when the fight turns sour.

Protection from Evil is a cheap and effective way to stop domination and charm effects. Magic Circle vs. Evil protects your whole group, if you huddle close. Even if you only cast those after the domination is in place, it will suppress mind control for as long the the PfE spell lasts.

re: gaseous form, the module also says that when below 10 hp they will go gaseous so as to be safe from most attacks. I had assumed then that this meant that gaseous was somewhere along the line of incorporeal, and that swings at the Yochlol in such a form would likely pass through. However, a look at the spell description, all the armour etc remains in place as a force effect, and it seems as though one can still swing an axe at a gaseous form and smash it to...wisps.

am I missing something?

I believe EttDP might be a case of 3.0 relapse in this regard: Gaseous Form pretty much made you incorporeal for most intents and purposes in 3.0, but works differently in 3.5. GF does give you damage reduction, but since it's overcome by magic weapons, that won't be an issue. Basically, GF isn't so much a buff as a utility spell, allowing you to pass through tiny cracks etc. Maybe a wounded Yochlol can use the spell to escape, heal up, and return to lay down some more smack?
