Determining creature CR

Hello,

I was wondering if there are some specific criteria used to determine a creature's CR.

Specifically, I want to convert the monsters in the Wheel of Time sourcebook from the silly ABC difficulty system to standard CR's, and want to make sure I'm accurate.
