With that explanation added in, I think this is the way to go.

I like the idea in Blood Called that a 'sorcerer' is a person who willingly lets a demon possess him; he gets to use the demon's abilities and the demon gets a chance to walk around in human form and corrupt people around him in a more direct fashion. Maybe work out some form of possession mechanic that lets them have access to the devil's spell-like abilities?

By the RAW, they could certainly be Clerics of lawful evilness. Indeed, there is a Domain printed in several sources for clerics who draw their powers from the layers of Hell themselves. That said, I think the sorcerer approach is fine, unless they lack access to spells you think they would need.

I'm thinking that the magic that lets the members have their devil-granted Cha bonus is tied up in the evil altar, so if it is destroyed they lose the bonus and thus their spell-casting abilities.
