Hi all, I posted a whil back about a project of mine, Dscript, made some furthe advances, thought you may like an updat
Dscript (Dimentional Script) published Dscript - Turning Words into Symbols and Gylphs
free for all, creative commons, no licence/royalty/fee/etc..
free to copy, edit, sell, etc..
Dscript is a system for turning alphabetical words into symbols.
Remeber when you were young, and bored, and tried to squeeze all the letters of a word together. didnt work because the letters werent designed for that.
Dscript is way to use "pen strokes" that can be twisted, skewed, rotated, etc.. but will remain legible.(imported alot from asian calligraphy brush stroke principles)
Tons of youtube video lessons, online generator, manual, pdf download, tools, art gallery
all free for all, no reservations!
Current version optimized for english, there are video lessons on "re-indexing" for creating alternate versions or adapting to other alphabets.
Basic alphabet looks like so
or make your own Dscript alphabet (guide here http://dscript.ca/dscript_conlang.gif)
letters are pieced together to form words, they are very flexible, able to distorted while still being legible.
the letters can also be connected in many different ways
the "standard" I have laid out for dscript are more like a "starting point"
it started like a font, then slowly became cursive. the major "evolution" came when I decided to try and allow it to be written horizontally AND vertically in cursive. This was a huge undertaking cause I couldnt find any good materials about how to do BOTH with a single design.
later while learning chinese, and having "solved" the dual axis problem, I decided to throw even more traditional restrictions out the window.. ie. "why does it need an axis? can the "string" of letters be "snaked" and "curled" up into a tighter space? letters inside of letters? "forks" in the string?..."
The manual and tools are for the single long string vertical version.
The video lessons jump right into where I am now, trying to create glyphs and symbols from words.
Dscript - Turning Words into Symbols and Gylphs
What happened was the end product turned out to be so flexible that i could start making them "logographic" simply by exploiting the plethora of options available to me now.
many people are adapting it, the letter Z in particular is one people seem to love revamping.
The entire alphabet can be "re-indexed" to any alphabet or language/application
There are even base 10/16/12/32 and my fav base 100 number system, chmistry notation, and more coming..
I think the next phase will be to start catalogueing all the various alphabets.. right now, the on on the site is "V 1.0 beta", soon i will have to start "a level higher" on the site, by first splitting off into the various alphabets... its gonna keep me bsuy till i die lol(indexing an alphabet takes a long time)
but it is so addictive I'm always looking for new projects for it.. just keep "digging myself a deeper hole" lol
glad to help out if you wanna use it for your projects, put so many years into this thing just happy to see it used
