Dire Wolf base save bonuses? *Solved*

What should I do?

*UPDATE* Problem solved, thanks Epametheus! More dumb questions to follow :heh:

First of all, I'd like to say "Hi everybody!"
Now, on to the matter at hand :

I'm currently playing in a campaign with a druid PC (who has just gained lvl 9) with a Dire Wolf as an animal companion. At lvl 9 the wolf gets its first animal companion boost (+2HD, +1Str/Dex, +2 nat armor, etc.) When calculating the bonuses associated to extra HD, I've come upon a problem:
The dire wolf's base save bonuses are confusing. it seems to me that a basic 6HD direwolf has base saves of +6/+6/+6 which wouldn't really make any sense.

His listed fortitude is +8 (I'm calculating, +3 from con, -1 from size, +6 base?)
Reflex is +7 (+2 dex, -1 size, +6 base?)
Will is +6 (+1 wis, -1 size, +6 base?)

which would make all 3 of his base saves even better than "good".

My question is: am I missing something that makes this normal? or should I set the saves to what it ought to be (fort & ref good, will poor)? or could the dire wolf be one of the animals that actually has a strong will - doesn't sound crazy to me (all saves treated as "good")?

Thanks,
Korvax

Dire animals in 3.0 had all good saves. I'm guessing that carried over to 3.5.

Size does not effect saves in any way.

The 6HD dire wolf has a base save of +5 in every area, and is then getting its stat modifiers applied to that.

duh, I'm sorry... I had always thought of the +1 that halflings get to all saves as a size-based bonus. (Nobody ever plays a gnome anyway eh? :p)

my bad, thanks for pointing this out!

(sheepishly walks away)

*edit* what is it with me and typos?
