He's fairly athletic and looks to be in good shape. Carl's most noticeable feature is his eyes. There's a certain determination in them that prison life hasn't been able to erase. The other prisoners sense this, and tend to give Carl a wide berth. Other than that, there's nothing too distinctive about him. He's got the same short, brown hair as millions of other American males around his age, and his face is nothing to write home about. At least he's not balding. Background: Carl got his nickname, "Three Shots," from his first week of work with the SWAT team. His unit was making an arrest on a drug dealer, and Carl was first through the door. The drug dealer was armed, and he started firing. Carl took three shots to the body, enough to take down even a person wearing an armored SWAT vest, but he stayed on his feet and took down the dealer. After he got out of the hospital and back to work, the other guys on the team gave him the name. Three Shots Johnson had a nice ring to it, so Carl didn't mind too much. It's ironic that a good cop like Carl would be serving time for murder, but that's the way things go. He's always had a problem with anger, and when he saw that dead little boy, well, he just went off the handle. If he'd have used his gun, he'd probably have been able to get off with manslaughter - the creep had just killed a 6 year-old boy that he'd taken hostage, after all. But Carl didn't use his gun. He used his knife. By the time his fellow cops had pulled Carl off of the guy, there wasn't much left of him. The jury convicted him of murder 2, and the judge gave him 20 years, with the possibility of early parole for good behavior. It's not so much the sentence that bothers Carl, it's that, even if he gets off early, he won't be able to be a cop anymore. Not after brutally murdering a perp. The police department was all that Carl had. No wife, no kids, father in a home for alzheimer's sufferers. The force was what Carl lived for, and now that's been taken away from him. Smith's offer intrigues Carl - maybe this is something new that he can devote himself too. Without a cause to fight for, he's nothing, and Smith is at least offering him a fight, if not a cause.
