He doesn't have a free hand to pick up that sword on the ground unless he sheath his weapon first, but if he does that, he just used up his free interaction so can't pick up the sword anymore, plus he would now be using unarmed strike if anyone provoke opportunity attack during that turn he has his weapons sheathed.  Same for any other character that decides to swing by to try and pick up the sword, their hands better be free to do so.</p></blockquote><p></p>
